1777 Battle of Ridgefield Reenactment,
Sunday, April 27
- 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM: ENCAMPMENT: The Scott House & Sunset Lane Park at 4 Sunset Lane. This demonstration of 18th Century British & American Military tented Colonial camp life and crafts includes: cooking, blacksmithing, lead & tinsmithing, clothing & leather; and other patriot militia drill & trooping events.
- 12:30 PM: MARCH TO BATTLE: Sunset Lane Park to the Ballard Park “Battlefield”. The public is encouraged to “walk the walk” with the troops.
- 1:00 – 2:30 PM: BATTLEFIELD: Ballard Park events:
- 1:00 – 1:15 PM: Muster the troops and introduce 18th c. military tactics, engagements, procedures, discipline, etc.
- 1:15 – 1:45 PM: The big event: “The Battle”- British & Colonial Militias engage “live”, with cannon, musket, formations, charge & retreat, casualties, etc.
- 1:45 - 2:00 PM: Memorial Service for the fallen with colonial military Honor Guard and the British & American troops participating. This service will be led by the Rev. John Heeckt, noted local historian, Pastor of Ridgebury Congregational Church (BTW… which was founded before the Revolution).
- 2:00 - 2:30 PM: “Meet & Greet” the Battle of Ridgefield’s soldiers and learn more about colonial warfare.
- 2:30 PM: VICTORY MARCH: Return to the Scott House & Sunset Lane Park encampment
